The Story of My Life, a new musical that explores a long friendship between two men, is heading to Broadway. The show will start performances on February 3 and open on February 19 at the Booth Theatre. Will Chase and Malcolm Gets, who recently headlined the show's premiere at Goodspeed Musical's Norma Terris Theatre, will star.
The two-character musical, with a score by Neil Bartram and book by Brian Hill, tells the story of two childhood friends and how that friendship profoundly defined their lives. Thomas Weaver Chase is a bestselling, award-winning author. Alvin Kelby Gets was his best friend for thirty years. But time can test the bonds of friendship–and when it does, Thomas calls on the only resources he has–his stories of Alvin–to learn where things went wrong. Richard Maltby Jr. Ain't Misbehavin', Fosse, Ring of Fire directs.
Chase was last seen on Broadway in Rent, as the production's final Roger, a role he also played earlier in the musical's long run. He previously headlined the Broadway musical High Fidelity and was also seen in Miss Saigon as Chris, Aida Radames, The Full Monty Jerry Lukowski and Lennon.
Gets received a Tony Award nomination for his work in the 2002 musical Amour and was previously seen in The Moliere Comedies. Off-Broadway, he won performance Obie Awards for playing Franklin Shepard in Merrily We Roll Along at the York Theatre and Proteus in Two Gentlemen of Verona for the New York Shakespeare Festival and was also seen in Juno, Hello Again, A New Brain, Finian's Rainbow, Boys and Girls and Polish Joke. Gets also starred in the long-running sitcom Caroline in the City and was recently seen in the big screen Sex and the City.
The Booth's current tenant, Horton Foote's
Dividing the Estate, is scheduled to play at the theater through January 4, 2008.
